1 at  Daisy Bank on 22^nd August 2001(AC)

1 at Moor End Gardens, Pellon on 10^th August 2004 (NCD)

1 found in a greenhouse during the day at Skircot Green allotments 12^th August 2006 (CS)

1 at light Moor End Gardens, Pellon on 8^th August 2008(found NCD) (gen det AC)

1 at Skircot Green allotments on the  24^th July 2010 (gen. Det. C.S)was found during the day with two similar moth present suggesting breeding at this site.

2082 Garden Dart  (Linnaeus, 1761)

This moth was recorded for the first time in Calderdale  at Kebroyd in  1959(2)

and in 1961(1) .it was then regarded as common in Yorkshire and was difficult to underdatand why it was scarce in Calderdale.It is now very scarce in Yorkshire but increasingly recorded in Calderdale,it could be said that the most reliablbe place in Yorkshire is Martyn’s back garden in Pellon. Between the 25^th July and 29^th September.

2104 Northern Rustic Standfussiana Lucerne

Collinson wrote this species used to be regular in our area but the last sighting was a pair in cop at Pye nest in 1953..There are no recent records despite looking.

2107 Large Yellow Underwing Noctua pronuba Linnaeus, 1758

Abundant between 6^th  June  and 13^th  October. It is not uncommon to record 100 +  to light on a warm summer evening, The largest catch was of 299  at Park road Elland 21^st Aug 2001 .(PT)

2109 Lesser Yellow Underwing Noctua comes Hübner, 1813

Common at light  from 28^th June to the 10^th October.On the 30^th August 2009 a specimen of the race saggitifer was recorded at Hedge top lane Northowram.(AC).53 at light Todmorden 29^th August 2008 and 45 to light Hedge Top Lane Northowram 23^rd August 2003.

Fairly Frequent at light from mid  July – early September.larvae found at Langfield Common feeding on various grasses Feb.March 2008.(BL)

This species was once only recorded on the Spurn peninsular but with warmer summer’s it has gone a range expansion and is now regularly recorded throught our area at light .1 record by ‘Spencer’in 1927 in Elland,The table below shows numbers of individuals recorded at light throughout our area.1999 -2009

Collinson wrote as abundant to light and sugar but there is only one recent record of one to light at Wyvern terrace 30^th June 2009(MH)

2117 Autumnal Rustic Paradiarsia glareosa (Esper, 1788)

Recorded throughtout the area at light traps and the first adults can be seen on the wing from the 21^st August until the 1^st October.Larvae can be seen on the moors on wavy hair grass from early January to early March. 22 to light at Todmorden on 29^th August 2009 was the maximum count.

2118 True Lover's Knot Lycophotia porphyrea ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

This species is generally abundant especially around heather moorland. Recorded throughout the area at light traps. 36 to light at Withens Clough Car park 27^th June 2009.This species can also be seen during the day feeding along Whiteholme drain in June.

2119 Pearly Underwing Peridroma saucia (Hb)

Collinson wrote of regular occurrence at light each year, there is only one  recent record of  1 to sugar at Colden Clough on 23^rd September 2006 (BL)

2120 Ingrailed Clay Diarsia mendica (Fabricius, 1775)

Recorded as abundant with  varied  colour forms up to 1969 and now regularly recorded at light traps throughout the area from 6^th May  –  25^th August.

This species was considerered scarce in Yorkshire in the last century but has increased its range since 1970 this is the only record so far.

1 at Moor End Gardens, Pellon on 18^th August 2001(NCD).

Recorded at light between  12^th June and 16^th August,the larvae can be found in April feeding on Greater woodrush.(BL).A large count of 58 to light at Knot wood hebden Bridgeo  on the 17^th July 2010.

Formerly scarce but now regular at light and some times abundant up to 1963

 Its hard to understand why this spe  cies is scarce in Calderdale nowerdays as it is common throughout Yorkshire and England in general .Records from light traps fall between 12^th June and 17^th October and are thinly distriputed throughout the area.The maximum counts are 3 at Park Road eland 19^th September 2000 and 3 at hedge top lane Northowram 23^rd August 2003..

2136 The Gothic Naenia typica (Linnaeus, 1758)

Apears oddly at light but larvae can be taken by torch in Feb/March on young dock leaves(Collinson)Now regular at light and sugar between the 24^th June and 19^th August.Larvae found on dock at Hedg top lane Northowram and reared through 2010

2137 Great Brocade Eurois occulta (Linnaeus, 1758)

This spectacular migrant moth occurs rarely in Calderdale.1 at Pye nest in 1955, 4 at Kebroyd in 1964 and 1 at Todmorden on 23^rd August 2007 (BL) all these records coninside with large influx’s into other parts of Yorkshire.

2138 Green Arches Anaplectoides prasina ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

1 at sugar at Gorpley Clough on the 13^th and 16^th July 2001 (BL) were the first records for Calderdale it was then recorded at Park road Elland in 2002. In 2007 another 1 in Hebden Bridge.Then in 2008/9 a real explosion with  13 records from Hedge Top Lane ,Brookfoot,Hipperholme,Kebroyd  and Hall wood.In 2010 recorded throughout calderdale with 12 to light at Knott Wood Hebden Bridge 2010.

2139 Red Chestnut Cerastis rubricosa ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

 Was said to be abundant at sallows and light up to 1963,there are a  few recent records and increasing with more coverage .On the 19^th April  at  Hardcastle Craggs and 21^st April  at Broadhead Clough  2002 ,1 at Hedge Top lane on the 18^th April , 1^st May 2006 and 5^th May 2007 ,1 at Wyvern Terrace on 15^th April 2007.1 at light in Todmorden 12^th April 2009 and 7 to light at Withens Clough Car park April 2009. 24 to light at Knot wood Hebden 16^th April 2010.
